As we left the harbour this morning in beautiful sunshine we were eager to get to our dive site after a few days off the sea due to bad weather. As the morning heated up we discussed the goings on in the area over the last few months and lapped up the sun. We were super patient this morning, and after moving our anchor spot in anticipation of seeing sharks, we were briefly rewarded with a copper shark gently swimming by. Then in the distance the faint silhouette of a small white shark was spotted, and we yearned for her to come give us a look. She did come briefly pop up at the back of Slashfin as well as at the anchor line, but not enough to give our cage divers the opportunity to check her out underwater. Nevertheless, we had a beautiful morning on the water and learned a lot of sharky facts. Our school group even gave a great rendition of happy birthday to one of their classmates underwater which was fun.
Our second trip saw more of the copper sharks, with four this time, and they were very playful this afternoon! It was great to see more sharks this trip, and Dito our small white shark was lurking in the distance. She came and checked us out quickly but the medals for this trip go to the Bronze Whalers!
The third and final trip of the day had quite the wait with the Copper sharks showing up but the Whites playing elusive. However persistence and patience paid out when not one but two White sharks were spotted towards the end of the trip, both juveniles under 3.0m in length, we were one of the lucky groups today to set eyes on these magnificent creatures.
