Conditions: Overcast morning with some light rain clearing for the afternoon and a medium swell a west wind.
Trip 1
Our guests this morning were met with overcast skies and a light rain as well as some choppy conditions in the bay however the shark activity did not mirror these gloomy conditions but was in fact bright and exciting! The boat headed out early into the Shallows and we were fortunate enough to spot a White shark almost instantly. This was a male approximately 3.5m in length with a brand new acoustic tag on his left side under the dorsal fin. This shark did not stick around but others followed his lead and this trip saw multiple sharks turning up. Two of some of our named and famed sharks made an appearance with the large female known as “Scarlett” due to all the dark scars that cover her head and tail visiting as well as “Vuvuzela” a smaller male that we can see multiple times a year also coming by.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day launched with the clouds clearing and the sun coming out. We also had a bit of a break in the weather with the wind decreasing a little making things a tad more confortable our on the boat. The sharks were yet again spotted almost instantly on arrival with two dark shadows seen cruising just under the waters surface near by. The first shark to interact with the boat was a very pale coloured female with some scarring around the gill and a frech wound on top of her head. This female stuck around for most of the trip making some very close passes by the cage to allow our divers to enjoy the view of this 3.4m shark. “Scarlett” and “Vuvuzela” also returned for this trip however they did not stick around and were on there way to investigating other interests in the bay. We also saw one of our acoustically tagged animals, a different individual to the one seen on the first trip, this was a smaller female known by the name “Kylo”.
Both trips today had other visitors other than the White sharks show up with Short-tailed stingrays gliding up from the depths curious as to what all the fuss on the surface was.
