Sightings:  Great White Sharks, Bronze whalers, Cape Fur Seal and Short-tail stingrays

Location: Joubertsdam

Water Temperature: Moderate

Visibility: Moderate

Another beautiful morning around here! We started our trip with a short ride to Gansbaai harbour as it wasn’t enough water in Kleinbaai. AS soon as we reached our anchor spot we jumped into our wetsuits and started to patiently wait for the first sharks to arrive, which didn’t take longer than 10 minutes! Our first white shark was a 4.5m female, showing off her power and speed going for the baits. After this beautiful female gave us several passes our beloved Shaun arrived coming up really nice and close to the cage. Already having a blast we were surprised by a third white shark of the trip, our feisty female of 2.8m came up for one pass. To add up we had a beautiful Bronze whaler’s activity with them coming in large numbers, and also a short-tail stingray coming several times! What a beautiful trip!

We launched for the afternoon in the hopes that we could continue on from the success of the first trip and once on anchor things looked bright with the Bronze whaler sharks appearing quite quickly, not long after though a Great White shark cruised gracefully into view. This was Shaun the shark, back from the end of first trip to show himself to our new guests. This shark has become known for is calm cruises by the cage, allowing all on board a fantastic glimpse of the amazing creature that a White shark is. The Bronze whalers still appeared now and again with the Great White around however as the trip progressed so did our shark numbers with the new addition of the 4.5m female for the trip, a few awesome passes by this big animal, showing off her sheer size before retreating to the depths and leaving the area for two smaller juvenile female sharks to come in, one of which has been seen over the last few weeks to cause a stir as she makes fast approaches and seems to have a knack for launching herself out of the water. The Short-tail stingrays also joined for the afternoon as two individuals slowly came from deep, their large, round shadows seen moving around for much of the remainder of the trip.
