Daily Blog 10 June 2017 Trip 1 & 2 | Shark Diving Gansbaai

“Great experience, amazing staff and lots of knowledge! Best experience ever. So grateful, want to do it again already!” –  Billie

“Wonderful crew, great experience.” – Lindsay

Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 13.6 C
Depth: 7.6m
Visibility:  0.5m
Number of Sharks: 8 on the first trip and 7 on the second.
Conditions:  Some wind on a chilly winters day.

The wind has picked up a little again as we are expecting yet another cold front however, today’s wind came from the north which always brings with it an element of warmth.

We saw 8 sharks on the first trip with the largest being a 4m male. The water temperatures have dropped and so we are starting to see a couple more males moving into the shallows. The only way to identify the gender of these animals is to look below and slightly to the back, where one might see two almost cylindrical claspers. We had a couple of nice, active sharks around with the smaller ones really giving us a great view. These guys were chasing the bait quite a bit, much to the delight of the divers in the cage.

On the second trip we also had the large male shark and managed to see 6 more, including Clarence. Clarence was pretty active today, being the only shark who allowed me to get this “jaw-sey” picture below.
