Daily Blog 06 June 2017 Trip 1 & 2 | White Shark Diving Gansbaai

“Absolutely phenomenal experience.it was incredible getting to see those animals so l. Fantastic! Thank you!” – Devon

“This was an amazing experience, thank you for making it perfect.” –  Faye

Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 13.9 C
Depth: 9.45m
Visibility:  1.5m – 2m
Number of Sharks: 5 on the first trip and 7 on the second.
Conditions:  very little swell and wind.

We had an amazing day out on the water with both trips experiencing some amazing sightings with great visibility. We didn’t have to wait long for the sharks to arrive and they stuck around pretty consistently for both trips, giving every diver the opportunity to view these majestic creatures from a really close range. We seemed to have a lot of sharks who made really close passes to the cage, with many not paying too much attention to our bait and decoy lines.

On the first trip, we were lucky to have a very large 4.3m female pay us a visit which is always a spectacular sight, this shark was only a little smaller than the cage, reminding the divers just how small us humans really are. This shark also seemed to have had a satellite tag at some point in its life, with some very indicative markings on the dorsal fin.

Clarence was also around for both trips, giving us a good show and we also managed to see another white shark missing half of its pectoral fin. Something as simple a fishing line may be to blame and it is an important reminder to all of us to keep our oceans clean and free of plastic.

On the second trip, we had a bunch of eager sportsman who thoroughly enjoyed their time diving with these apex predators. We had a couple of active sharks around and managed to see an awesome total of 7 white sharks in around 2 hours!

We will be off sea for the next few days due to a major storm moving through (with swells up to 10m high!) but, we hope that this activity will continue when we return later in the week.

If you are looking to get up close and personal with the great white shark then White Shark Diving in Gansbaai, and more specifically with Marine Dynamics, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you won’t want to miss.
