Shame we had no sharks but we were lucky to see a big group of bottlenose dolphins, seals and penguins!
Wildlife Wednesday anyone?! Today was Slashfin's first day back on the water after four days off sea due to a cold front sweeping through the area, we all wondered what we would encounter…
Slashfin launched this morning from Kleinbaai harbour with a beautiful sunrise coming up from behind the mountains. We were hopeful that after not seeing any sharks yesterday, that we would get to see some today…
After a couple of days off the water as a result of bad weather, we headed to the shallows in anticipation of some sharky sightings this morning!
Rise and shine shark cage divers, we have an experience of a lifetime waiting…
We were a little apprehensive this morning after the slow activity we experienced yesterday, however within 20 minutes of anchoring we had a lovely 4.0m female burst out of the water and grab the decoy…
It was only yesterday I was commenting on the fact we haven’t seen dolphins from Slashfin in quite some time and low and behold just after we had left the harbour we came across a pod of Bottlenose dolphins…
Today was another one of those unbelievable jaw-dropping days…
Once again we encountered some swelly conditions when making our way out towards Shark Alley, but fortunately the channel provided us the perfect venue for our shark cage diving. We had zero waiting time and our very first shark was the biggest one of the day, a behemoth 4.3 meter individual. It made several passes in the beginning and returned again later for a second and third look at the cage! The seals on Geyser Rock were being particularly noisy today. It would seem that they were not being very appreciative of the fact that we were getting along so well with their enemy! All and all it was a fantastic trip; it was unfortunate that our first group of clients did not get to see the massive pod of bottlenose dolphins which we sighted on our second trip! Sorry guys, this at least gives you an excuse to come visit us again! See you soon…
It was a great day at sea with little to no waiting time for the sharks to arrive! It is always a great treat if the sharks decide to arrive promptly at ‘work’! The sharks we encountered were for the most part well above the 3 meter mark and very entertaining. As an extra treat we were greeted by a whole family of African (black footed) penguins, they were very close to the boat and then started to move out towards greener pastures. Just to top off an amazing day, we were very fortunate to have encountered a massive pod of bottlenose dolphins on our way back in towards the harbour. What an amazing treat…
